Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not sure if therapy is for me. Should I book?

Your first counselling session is an opportunity to explore what support might look like for you—no pressure, no long-term commitment. Many of our clients find this initial conversation helpful in clarifying their needs and determining whether our approach and practitioner are the right fit. It’s a safe, supportive space to begin, with the freedom to decide what comes next.

Why Do I Have to Fill in an Online DASS-21?

The DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale) is a simple self-assessment tool that helps us understand how you’re currently feeling. It gives a snapshot of your emotional wellbeing and helps guide our conversations in a way that’s supportive and tailored to your needs.

Completing the DASS-21 before your first session allows us to:

  • Get a clearer picture of your current experience
  • Prioritise what matters most to you
  • Track your progress over time (if you choose ongoing support)

It's completely confidential, takes just a few minutes, and there are no right or wrong answers. It’s simply a starting point—a tool to help us support you in the most meaningful and effective way.

What happens in the first appointment?

Your first counselling session is all about getting to know you. It’s a space for you to share what’s been going on—personally, professionally, or emotionally—at your own pace. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out.

In this session, we’ll:

  • Talk about what brought you here and what you’d like support with
  • Explore your goals, challenges, and any patterns you’ve noticed
  • Walk you through how counselling works and what to expect
  • Begin to shape a plan that feels right for you

You’ll also have the chance to ask questions and decide if our approach is the right fit. It’s a collaborative process, grounded in empathy, trust, and respect.

You’re not locked into ongoing sessions—this is your time, your choice, and your journey.
