Motivation to Change Assessment

Prochaska et al.’s (1994) Stages of Change model, or Transtheoretical Model (TMC), is widely used in clinical settings. It views change as a gradual, step-by-step process, influenced by a person’s willingness, confidence, and actions. The model outlines six stages, from pre-contemplation (no intention to change) to termination, where the new behaviour becomes a lasting part of one’s identity.

Understanding a stage of change helps tailor interventions, align coaching/therapy with motivation, and reframe setbacks as part of growth. This tool uses the TMC to assess readiness for change.

Take the assessment and identify your current stage of change profile. .
