Marathon Milestones: A Journey of Resilience with the GROW Mode
By sharing my personal marathon journey, I illustrate the effective application of the GROW model in achieving significant goals. This story serves as a practical example of how breaking down a larger goal into manageable tasks can lead to success, even when faced with challenges.
Goal Setting: My primary aim was to finish a marathon, aspiring to beat my stepfather's best time of 3:30. This clear, ambitious goal provided direction and motivation.
Reality Check: Acknowledging my current fitness level and the stark difference in training for a full marathon compared to a half marathon grounded my approach. It highlighted the need for a structured, incremental training plan.
Obstacles: Facing injuries was a significant hurdle. Instead of allowing these setbacks to derail my goal, I adapted my strategy, replacing some running with swimming and cycling to maintain fitness without exacerbating my injuries.
Way Forward: Persistent adjustments to my training regimen, diet, and lifestyle kept me aligned with my goal. Despite not having run the full marathon before the race, strategic planning and adaptation to challenges kept me on course.
This story emphasizes the importance of adaptability and resilience. By breaking down the overarching goal of running a marathon into smaller, actionable tasks and adapting strategies in response to obstacles, I navigated through each phase of the GROW model. This approach not only facilitated my journey towards the marathon but also underscored the practicality of the GROW model in personal goal achievement, demonstrating how personal stories can vividly illustrate the model's effectiveness.
