In the world we live in, burnout has become an all too familiar companion for many of us. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was no stranger to the relentless demands of work, chasing growth targets, saving for a house, and the exciting prospect of starting a family. The elusive concept of work-life balance felt like a distant dream, and my responsibilities seemed to multiply with each passing day.
Then, the pandemic struck, bringing with it a devastating blow - the loss of my father. This heart-wrenching event forced me to make difficult decisions, including our parenting journey, and it added even more responsibilities to my plate. My life felt like a never-ending juggling act, with wellness and balance slipping further out of reach.
As the world grappled with the uncertainties of the pandemic, I found myself working from home 100% of the time, far away from the bustling city where I once thrived. The challenge of putting myself forward to engage in a new community and explore new interests weighed heavily on me. The burnout symptoms I had been ignoring finally caught up with me, and I realized that something had to change.
The path to burnout recovery was a journey of self-discovery and rediscovery. I began by identifying what was truly important to me: my mental and emotional well-being, a sense of purpose beyond my career, and a commitment to helping others facing similar experiences. I took a bold step and finished a counselling qualification, immersing myself in the process of healing from my father's death.
Becoming a learner once more was empowering, and it played a pivotal role in my recovery. I learned the art of boundary management, allowing myself the space to breathe and recuperate. I rekindled my passion for social engagement, explored the serenity of bushwalking, reignited my love for the gym, embraced yoga, and embarked on a meditation journey that continues to this day.
One of the most transformative steps in my journey was the decision to start my coaching business. I realized that by sharing my experiences and newfound knowledge, I could help others navigate their own burnout and find their path to renewal.
My experience with burnout was a wake-up call that led me down a new career direction and a more fulfilling life. It taught me the importance of self-care, setting boundaries, and the profound impact of helping others. Today, I stand as a testament to the fact that burnout doesn't have to be the end; it can be a powerful catalyst for positive change and personal growth.
