Conversations about Suicide
A practical course for adults who want to respond with care when someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviours.

Be ready to start a supportive conversation
Conversations about Suicide focuses on the first steps you can take when you are concerned about another person. In an instructor-led setting, you will practise noticing possible signs, asking directly about suicide and responding without judgement.
What you will explore
- Recognising signs that someone may be thinking about suicide.
- Starting a conversation and listening to the person’s experience.
- Offering initial support and helping them connect with professional and other appropriate supports.
- Looking after yourself as a person offering support.
Who is it for?
Adults in workplaces, community groups or personal networks who want to build confidence in these conversations. You do not need to have completed Standard MHFA first.
Format and recognition
This is a four-hour face-to-face course delivered by a Licensed MHFA Instructor. It is a focused course and does not provide MHFAider accreditation.
